Jin Shin Do

“Jin” means compassion, “Shin” means spirit, and “Do” means Tao, or The Way… In other words, this is “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit”.

Acupressure (Jin Shin Do) is a holistic (meaning the person is treated as a whole both physically and emotionally) form of pressure massage that combines aspects of Japanese Acupressure (Jin Shin Jitsu) and Chinese Acupuncture Theory, with Energy Techniques somewhat similar to Reiki, to help release blocked patterns of energy in the Body.

This system was created by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, who studied acupuncture theory, several types of existing acupressure, research in Jin Shin Jitsu in Japan and adaptations of her own to fit Western Culture. The treatment is designed to harmonize and replenish the “Chi”- the intrinsic, vital energy of the Body). When this happens, the person being worked on releases tensions, frequently going into a very deep state of relaxation, in which it is easier to let go of chronic or deeply-held patterns of pain, tension, or emotional stress held in the body.

Each person coming to a session has a verbal history taken, talking about emotional and physical symptoms, as well as having his twelve Organ Meridians assessed, which gives the practitioner some idea of the states of balance (or imbalance) going on in his or her body.

All techniques are done with fingers, hands and arms…No needles are used. Wearing warm clothes and lying on his/her back, the person experiencing a session may feel unusual sensations going up and down his body, as though waves were passing through parts of it, accompanied by the release of tensions in that part of the body. Frequently, sessions are so deeply relaxing that the person experiencing it cannot stay awake!

Most clients leave feeling both relaxed and energized, and frequently experience immediate and pleasant changes, emotionally and physically. Monthly or bi-monthly visits are recommended for treating chronic, long-held or hormonal conditions, since Jin Shin Do emphasizes maintainance of well being rather than waiting for more symptoms to occur and then fixing them.
